Digital x-rays have been adopted by a high percentage of dental offices. A digital x-ray allows the dentist to take an image of the teeth and put it into an imaging program. Within this imaging program, there are a number of tools that will allow the dentist to take a very close look at the teeth and surrounding structures with amazing accuracy. As a benefit to the patient, the digital x-ray also provides less radiation than a standard x-ray. This is due to the fact that the digital version of the x-ray is much more sensitive to this radiation and has been specifically designed to reduce radiation.
In the case of internal fracture lines (cracks), they will often show on photographs, not x-ray, taken with an intraoral camera.
Digital x-rays can also be easily emailed to any dentist, anywhere in the world. X-rays are the property of the dentist who takes them. The patient is entitled, by the State Board of Dental Examiners, to be provided a copy of his or hers x-rays,either electronically or on paper. The most accurate method is electronic ( by computer) rather than on paper, which can be impossible to read. The dentist is permitted to charge for an x-ray film copy. We never charge a patient and will email any x-ray, anywhere, at anytime, to any dentist or patient.
The intraoral camera is an excellent diagnostic tool for viewing different angles in the mouth that we would not have been able to just a few years ago. The camera gives us the ability to view the entire mouth on a monitor so that we can get a closer look at any potential issues or problems that may arise. In addition, the patient will have the ability to see for themselves first hand the same images we are seeing. These digital images are also excellent for gaining procedure acceptance from insurance companies.
In the case of internal fracture lines, cracks, they will often show on photographs. I have many photographs on teeth that show internal fracture lines that penetrate the nerves. I also have many extracted teeth that also show these fracture lines.
The Diagnodent helps detect dental caries at the earliest possible stage so that the most appropriate treatment can be presented to you.
Diagnodent is a fluorescent laser that finds cavities which lie beneath the surface of the tooth. There are often cavities that x-rays and the explorer do not find. This advanced technology helps to preserve a greater amount of your tooth structure by uncovering dental decay before it progresses too far.
Endodontics, more commonly known as root canal, is a procedure where the nerves of the tooth are removed. This is often due to the fact that the nerve is infected and the tooth is painful.
Rotary Endodontics is the new way of performing the root canal, utilizing a very slow speed electric hand piece. This technique often makes the process better and faster and allows the dentist to perform the process with greater accuracy and higher quality results.
After the nerves are removed and the nerve canals are thoroughly cleaned they are filled with a material called gutta percha, and a dental paste cement. Proper completion of a root canal nearly always requires two appointments.
